Electron icon generator

Drop one image and get every icon your Electron app needs: ICNS for macOS, ICO for Windows, PNGs for Linux and the macOS menu bar. Download them one by one, or all together in a ZIP. Everything runs in your browser.

Image

No image

PNG, JPEG, WebP or SVG, square, 1024×1024 or larger. It stays in your browser.

    macOS icon

    macOS layout

Your image fills the icon. Pick this if it already follows Apple's grid: a rounded square of 824×824 in the middle of 1024×1024. Windows and Linux icons always fill their square.

    macOS menu bar icon

    Tray icon

The tray icon keeps every opaque pixel: best for a logo on a transparent background. macOS draws it in the color of the menu bar.

    Where do the files go?

The ZIP keeps the folders of an Electron AppStack project: unzip it at the root of your app.

build/ holds the icons of electron-builder: icon.icns for macOS, icon.ico for Windows and its installer, and icons/ with one PNG per size for Linux. They are packed into the installers, not into your app.

resources/ holds the files your main process reads at run time: icon.png for the window icon on Linux, and trayTemplate.png with its @2x version for a menu bar icon on macOS. Pass the first one to new Tray(): macOS picks the @2x file on Retina screens, and the Template suffix tells it to color the icon.

    Questions

No. The icons are drawn and packed in your browser, and your image never leaves this page.

A square PNG of 1024×1024 pixels or more, with a transparent background, or an SVG, which stays sharp at every size. Smaller images work, but the large icons look blurry.

No. electron-builder only needs build/icon.png and makes the other icons from it. The ICNS, ICO and Linux PNGs replace what it makes, so you control the small sizes, and the tray icons are for your own code.

macOS icons follow Apple's grid: the artwork is a rounded square of 824×824 in the middle of the 1024×1024 canvas, and the margin is transparent. Pick Padded or Rounded if your image fills its square, so your icon matches the others in the Dock.

macOS draws menu bar icons from template images: black shapes on a transparent background, which it colors for light and dark menu bars. The tool drops the colors of your image and keeps its shape: every opaque pixel, or only its light or its dark parts when your logo sits on a background. A simple, single color logo works best at 16×16.

The ICO holds 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixel images: 32-bit bitmaps, and PNG for 256. The ICNS holds PNGs from 16 to 1024 pixels, including the @2x sizes of Retina screens.
